# When a licence ends

> What happens to your domain and your data when a Cloud Defender licence expires.

**Protection stops. Your data stays.**

When a Cloud Defender licence expires, we stop protecting the domain, but the instance and everything
it recorded remain. You keep access to it.

* The domain still appears in your Cloud Defender list, with the licence shown as
**Expired \<date>** and the status as **Not active**.
* Its status page still opens, and the traffic history, attacker insights and detections are all
  still readable.
* Nothing can be reconfigured, and no new traffic is recorded, because the domain is no longer
  behind Cloud Defender.

To restart protection, renew the licence — the same instance and its history resume; nothing needs
to be set up again.

You are warned before this happens: 30 days before the expiry date, again the day before, and once
more on expiry. Those notices go to the organization's Owners and to any administrative point of
contact.
